What is a massive heart attack?
Despite the fact that "Massive Heart Attack" is not a medical term, physicians continue to use it to describe the vast area of myocardium affected in heart attack. It is a term which says that it is more than a regular heart attack, with a big proportion of affected myocardium.
Media uses the term of "massive heart attack" to describe the sudden death caused by a myocardial infarction. It is generally accepted that a "massive heart attack" destroys a large amount of muscular cardiac tissue, more than 25% of the entire myocardium.
Even if this is not a medical term present in the classification of myocardial infarction, this term is used by physicians and transmitted to the patients, which are in search of more information about this syndrome.
